Job Description
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is seeking a Military Legislative Assistant (MLA) to join the Office’s national security team.
- The MLA’s primary role is to handle defense and veterans issues. The MLA will also be expected to contribute more broadly to certain aspects of the Senators’ foreign policy.
- The MLA will be responsible for: staffing the Senator for issues within the portfolio; overseeing legislative activity and initiatives related to the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs; serving as the primary liaison on the national security team for military installations and military communities in Texas; drafting legislation and other written products; monitoring pending legislation in assigned issue areas; meeting with constituents; and preparing briefing materials for the Senator. The MLA will also have to be available for overseas travel as needed.
- Qualified candidates will excel in a team setting, have excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and communication skills; operate effectively under pressure, and effectively juggle multiple priorities.
- The most qualified candidates will have prior military experience, Hill experience, an understanding of the NDAA process, and existing security clearance. This is not an entry level position.
- Qualified candidates with strong writing skills will be given preference.
