Job Description
Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (D, MI-08) seeks a Legislative Aide or Legislative Assistant with healthcare policy and appropriations experience to join an active, driven legislative team and deliver results for the people of Mid-Michigan. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, adaptive, and a team player.

Responsibilities include:
- Developing and advancing legislative proposals and bills;
- Tracking committee and floor activity relevant to the LA’s policy portfolio;
- Developing and advancing policy letters, such as comment letters to agencies, on issues;
- Monitoring news and policy developments relevant to the issue area;
- Reviewing and recommending bills for co-sponsorship, and letters to co-sign;
- Helping supervise, plan, assign, and evaluate work of Legislative Correspondent, when applicable;
- Developing policy briefs, remarks, and other materials;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders relevant to the issue areas;
- Helping draft relevant letters as part of the constituent mail program;
- Helping organize legislative team trackers and recurring memos and meetings;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience on the Hill or in a relevant role, with policy experienced preferred;
- Strong understanding of the legislative process and House procedures;
- Exercises discretion and sound judgment in developing policy proposals and recommendations for the Member;
- Works cooperatively and communicates well across all departments in D.C. and the district;
- Conducts self in a professional manner, understanding that staff represent the whole office and the Member;
- Strong writing, communications, and analytical skills;
- Health care policy experience, knowledge of and experience with the appropriations process, and Michigan ties are a plus.
