Job Description
The Office of Congresswoman Analilia Mejia (NJ-11) seeks a Legislative Assistant to lead a portfolio focused on health policy and other issues as assigned in her Washington D.C. office. The Legislative Assistant will also support the Congresswoman’s work on the House Committee on Small Business.
Responsibilities are wide-ranging and include, but are not limited to: supporting the Congresswoman’s work on healthcare and childcare issues; working with the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff to develop and execute a coordinated legislative strategy; preparing for and staffing committee hearings and markups; drafting legislation and amendments; writing talking points, briefing materials, and memoranda pertaining to assigned issue areas; working closely with the communications and district teams; monitoring policy developments in issue area; interacting with key constituent groups and stakeholders; and strong written and oral communication skills.
This is not an entry level position. Qualified candidates should have either 2-3 years of Hill experience or relevant policy experience. Candidates must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with ties to New Jersey are encouraged to apply.
