Job Description

The office of Senator Mark R. Warner is looking for a Legislative Correspondent to work on policy related to banking, housing, veterans affairs, and a handful of other issues. The LC will be responsible for managing constituent correspondence in assigned issue areas, regularly meeting with constituent groups, drafting memos and talking points, attending briefings, and summarizing materials for assigned Legislative Assistants. Responsibilities may include driving the Senator—sometimes on evenings and weekends; the ideal candidate will have a driver’s license and impeccable driving record but need not have their own vehicle. Qualified applicants will excel at handling multiple responsibilities at one time and meeting deadlines and mail targets while possessing strong verbal communication skills, as well as exceptional analytic, writing, and research skills. This is not an entry level position; applicants must have at least one year of Hill or related experience. Virginia ties are strongly preferred. The starting salary for the LC position is $46,000. Interested parties should email a cover letter and resume to resumes@warner.senate.gov with the subject line “Legislative Correspondent.” Please save the cover letter and resume in a single file (pdf preferred) and name the file “Last name, First name.” This office is an equal opportunity employer; we do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion, disability, national origin, uniformed status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression. Application materials must be received by January 29 at 5:00 PM EST. Applications received after that point will not be considered.
