Job Description
We’re Hiring: Program and Community Manager for the Center for Climate and Security
August 26, 2026
Center for Climate and Security, Job Opportunity
By Council on Strategic Risks
The Council on Strategic Risks (CSR) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to anticipating, analyzing, and addressing systemic risks to security in the 21st century, and the ways in which these risks intersect and exacerbate one another. CSR is organized around three research institutes: the Center for Climate and Security, the Nolan Center on Strategic Weapons, and the Converging Risks Lab. CSR also mentors the next generation of security practitioners through nuclear, climate, biological, and ecological security fellowships, connecting active policy practitioners, emerging leaders, and scholars across these fields. CSR is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and works around the world.
The Center for Climate and Security (CCS) is CSR’s institute dedicated to exploring the security risks of climate change and advancing sound policy responses. Since 2011, CCS has built a track record as a leading source of research, analysis, and convening on the climate-security nexus, working with a distinguished Advisory Board of senior military, intelligence, and national security leaders, and engaging U.S. and international policymakers, defense and intelligence communities, and civil society partners.
Position Summary
CSR seeks a Program and Community Manager to help sustain and grow the Center for Climate and Security. This is a growth opportunity for an organized, self-directed professional to take ownership of core program operations, funder engagement, and team support functions at a small, fast-moving nonprofit institute working at the intersection of climate and security policy. The Program and Community Manager will work closely with the CCS Director, and will need to function independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple concurrent projects. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to interact competently and credibly with external stakeholders (including funders, advisory board members, and partner organizations), and a demonstrated commitment to being a reliable, flexible member of a small, close-knit team. The ideal candidate will bring genuine enthusiasm for and commitment to the CSR mission.
