We recruit, train, and support caring, consistent volunteer court-appointed special advocates for children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Program Coordinator: Duties and Responsibilities
Case Management & Volunteer Supervision; Program & Professional Development
- Assume management responsibility for up to 30 cases, directed by senior colleagues.
- Be readily available/accessible by phone and email to support/assist CASA volunteers.
- Prepare and distribute case assignment info; review and edit CASA reports for hearings.
- Attend court hearings, as needed in person, with volunteers; maintain monthly calendar.
- Supervise, guide and assist CASA volunteers in the preparation of cases/reports for court and in volunteers’ provision of ongoing advocacy services.
- Attend key meetings with assigned volunteers, documenting/channeling info as needed.
- Attend, if requested, first home visits with assigned volunteers and as needed after.
- Maintain timely, thorough, and confidential records on each case and volunteer; have accurate data ready for—and generate—monthly, quarterly, and other periodic reports.
- Coach/develop volunteer pool; participate in evaluation of volunteer performance.
- Periodically assess, recognize/appreciate, and retain volunteers; assist with recruitment.
- Assist in organizing, facilitating and conducting pre-service and continuing education and materials for volunteers, and volunteer appreciation events.
- Actively participate in a range of meetings, modeling the mission as a face of CASA.
- Ensure National CASA/GAL and Connecticut CASA standards/statutes are met.
- Any other reasonable duties as assigned, e.g., making recruiting presentations.
Program Coordinator (AKA “Advocate Supervisor”) position
- Thoughtful communication; attention to detail; writing, editing, public speaking ability
- Experience in child welfare, court, education and/or supervision of volunteers preferred
- Spanish (as well as English) language fluency preferred
- At least a bachelor’s degree preferred; law/social work training/experience a plus
Conditions of Employment
- Part-time (PT) & Full-time (FT) options will be considered, either way an at-will position (up to 40 hours/5 days/week—salary pro-rated) with vacation/holidays after 90 days.
- Flexible schedule includes regular office hours—often on a remote basis—and periodic but predictable evening work (to accommodate volunteers during training sessions).
- Transportation to attend meetings, court, and represent CASA elsewhere as needed.
