For 35 years, Urban Recipe’s food cooperatives (Food Co-ops) have provided consistent food to people in need, doing so in an environment where recipients build relationships with one another and gain ownership by participating in the process. Our mission is to partner with our members and supporters in creating food security, and building community.
Position Summary: The Program Manager is responsible for the effective implementation and development of a portfolio of Urban Recipe’s Food Co-op programs. This role oversees Co-op coordination, program data and reporting systems, partner compliance, and food procurement, while working closely with both the Programs and Operations teams to plan and execute weekly distributions. The Program Manager supports Co-op Coordinators, maintains accurate program records, and ensures that program activities are consistent, compliant, and aligned with Urban Recipe’s mission and operational goals. The Program Manager works under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Operations, who provides strategic direction, sets program priorities, and ensures alignment across programming and operations.

Responsibilities: Administrative and Programming (About 65%)
- Manage a portfolio of Food Co-ops, ensuring consistent distributions, adherence to membership guidelines, and strong coordinator support through orientations, meetings, and ongoing communication
- Maintain program tracking systems, dashboards, and documentation to ensure accurate data on participation, distributions, and impact metrics
- Oversee program reporting and compliance requirements, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for partners and internal use
- Lead member data management processes, including attendance tracking, maintenance of active member records, and new member intake processes
- Coordinate annual program planning activities such as Co-op calendars, food safety trainings, partner certifications, and monitoring visit preparation
- Support program events, trainings, and member engagement initiatives in collaboration with internal teams
- Represent Urban Recipe in partner communications and meetings as needed and support cross-team coordination
- Manage food procurement with multiple partners, including ordering, scheduling deliveries and pickups, tracking costs, and maintaining required documentation
- Coordinate inventory planning and distribution preparation in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of distribution records, donation logs, temperature logs, and other compliance documentation
- Support warehouse and volunteer activities as needed to ensure successful food distributions
- Ensure all food handling, storage, and distribution practices meet safety standards and partner requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Minimum two years of experience in program management, community engagement, nonprofit operations, or related field
- Experience working with food banks, distribution programs, or cooperative models strongly preferred
- Strong organizational and project management skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, reporting requirements, and data systems simultaneously
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and shared digital filing systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across teams
- Commitment to dignity-centered, community-driven work
- Ability to lift and transport items up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching, standing, and walking in a warehouse environment
- Required use of PPE and adherence to food safety and warehouse safety protocols
