JOB
Under the general direction of the Sheriff, the Public Affairs Director develops, manages, and executes strategic communications, public information, media relations, and community engagement for the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. This role serves as the primary liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the public, media, elected officials, and partner organizations. This role is a member of the Command Staff of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and guides all staff in public facing efforts.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Leads the Communication Unit in carrying out the Sheriff’s Mission and Vision and ensures all staff adheres to the Office’s core values; Trust, Service, Community;Cultivates high morale and a Team culture within the Communications Unit;Ensures the Public Affairs services are performed at a high-level and is customer-service oriented;Serves as the primary spokesperson for media and public relations;Foster relationships with public safety partners, stakeholders, media personnel, and community organizations;Oversee all social media platforms to ensure consistent, accurate, and positive messaging to the community;Develop, implement, and manage the Department’s crisis communication plans;Lead outreach initiatives to engage the community and uphold transparency and trust;Coordinate internal and external events such as National Night Out, job fairs, law enforcement memorials, employee recognition ceremonies, and more;Provide leadership and supervision to the Public Affairs Officer;Performs such other duties as necessary
