ABOUT US: The Black Institute is an “action tank” – a think tank that takes action, to promote civil rights and social justice. The mission of The Black Institute is to shape intellectual discourse and dialogue and impact public policy uniquely from a Black perspective (a perspective which includes all people of color in the United States and throughout the Diaspora). In support of the mission, The Black Institute is seeking a bold and dedicated Research Associate to strengthen and expand TBI issue areas in Education, Economics, Immigration, and Environment.

As an Associate, you will design and manage research projects from conception to completion. You will focus on data gathering, polling and academic partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and coordinating development of appropriates research data and writing reports to support TBI’s campaigns and special projects
  • Gathering information through desk research as well as field research, both qualitative and quantitative – including site visits, interviews, surveys, networking, attending public meetings and industry events, etc.
  • Synthesizing relevant facts from a large amount of information and providing summary and analysis of findings
  • Work closely, and coordinate research with staff and partnering organizations
  • Compile year-round reports as determined by the executive board
  • Identifying individuals, institutions and organizations that operate in TBI’s areas of interest
  • Attending events on weekends as needed – hearings, conferences, meetings, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a nonprofit, political science, or public policy sector
  • Experience with research-based writing.
  • Interest in racial justice and social equality
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in organizing and effectively communicating research findings
  • Editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong analytical skills

Expected hours: 40 hours per week for 3 months

Pay: Up to $40,000.00 per year
