NEW YORK SOLIDARITY NETWORK

Job Description

Social Media Strategy and Content Manager

Reports to: CEO | Location: New York City Metro Area | Classification: Full-Time, Exempt | Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000

About New York Solidarity Network

The New York Solidarity Network (NYSN) is a 501(c)(4) membership organization dedicated to promoting commonsense governance and protecting the interests of New York City's Jewish community. NYSN works to build civic influence through organizing, advocacy, and community engagement — and to counter forces that threaten democratic values and the security of Jewish New Yorkers.

Position Summary

NYSN is hiring a full-time Social Media Strategy and Content Manager — an outstanding social media strategist and creator with creative energy, strong communication skills, and fluency in social media platforms, trends, and best practices. Short-form video, rapid response, and social media strategy are the core of this position: producing short-form videos, social posts, digital stories, and campaigns that make clear why this moment matters for Jewish New Yorkers and for the city as a whole.

As NYSN builds its digital capacity, this person will serve as our in-house expert, advising leadership on how the organization uses social media. The role combines strategy and craft: setting direction for NYSN's social presence, producing original content, building online support, and generating meaningful engagement with voters, members, supporters, and volunteers across important platforms. This role reports to the CEO. As NYSN grows, the reporting line may change.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is passionate, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative environment — someone who knows how to tell a compelling story in fifteen seconds, can respond quickly when news breaks, and use data to make every campaign better than the last. We are especially eager to talk to candidates who believe that digital advocacy can do more than generate outrage. NYSN wants to build the kind of online presence that persuades and not merely provokes.

Depending on experience and skill set, the role may also include growing NYSN's supporter list, managing the supporter email program, and leading paid digital initiatives, working with our operations team. That experience is a plus but not a requirement; experience creating short-form videos, responding rapidly to news events, and devising effective social media strategies matters far more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own NYSN's social media strategy: set goals and measures of success, and build and execute plans on major platforms that advance NYSN's organizational goals.
  • Serve as NYSN's in-house advisor on social media, helping leadership understand how social media fits with the organization's broader digital presence and how the organization should engage online.
  • Create original content, including short-form video and social posts, that authentically reflects NYSN's voice and values and the organization's messaging priorities.
  • Monitor the news environment, trends, and issues relevant to NYSN's work; create timely content in response to breaking events, public policy changes, and antisemitic statements by candidates and public officials; and flag emerging opportunities and risks to leadership.
  • Work with other NYSN personnel to maintain consistent brand voice and messaging across the organization and amplify the organization's reach and impact.
  • Track and analyze performance data across platforms to refine content, improve engagement, and recommend strategy adjustments, with regular reporting to NYSN leadership.

Other possible responsibilities depending upon the applicant’s interests and skill set

  • Own NYSN's supporter email program, including the content, testing, and proposed calendar of supporter emails, and contribute content and strategic advice to the website.

  • Manage NYSN's paid digital program, directly or through an outside vendor; test and refine campaigns.

Qualifications

Required

  • A minimum of four years of experience (or an equivalent portfolio) in social media, digital, or communications roles.
  • Strong visual content creation skills, especially short-form video production.
  • Hands-on experience with major social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and/or others, and with analytics tools to measure performance and turn data into recommendations.
  • A track record of building and leading social media programs, with measurable results, for political campaigns, elected officials, nonprofits, and/or commercial brands.
  • Sound judgment and composure in politically sensitive situations, including producing fast-turnaround content on contested or high-stakes issues.
  • A portfolio of work samples demonstrating video and social content, and graphic design where applicable. Applicants should submit a portfolio or links to their work with their application.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Careful attention to detail, strong time management, and comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends when the work demands it.
  • Candidates must reside in the New York City metro area and be able to travel within the city to gather on-the-ground content such as interviews.

Helpful but Not Required

  • Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management platforms such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite.
  • Familiarity with New York City, its municipal government, and/or New York's Jewish community.
  • Comfortable speaking into camera and appearing in videos.
  • Hands-on experience managing paid social or digital advertising, including campaign setup, audience targeting, and budget tracking, or experience overseeing an outside vendor.
  • Experience running an email program, re-engaging dormant contacts, and growing a supporter or prospect list.

Benefits

NYSN offers excellent health, vision and dental coverage.
