PURPOSES
1. Assists in building strategic relationships with opinion leaders who affect the reputation of the Church, and whose actions and influence can help or hinder the Church's mission. 2. Providing information, insights and perspectives by: (a) identifying problems, challenges, and opportunities facing the Church, (b) providing information and analysis to help Church leaders make informed decisions, (c) recommending possible effects of those decisions on specific publics (d) communicating in ways that build effective relationships for the Church and help solve problems. Primary audiences for this position include the Public Affairs director to whom this person reports; Public Affairs directors' council, the Public Affairs committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate international outreach with embassy officials and staff in Washington
- Plan and manage events that include high-ranking international diplomats, U.S. government representatives, faith leaders, business leaders and others
- Develop outreach and hosting initiatives to introduce ambassadors and embassy staff to the Church and its people
- Prepare and manage correspondence, social media and other communications with diplomats about international Church activity, such as Church-sponsored humanitarian work and in-country governmental interactions
- Facilitate contact between senior Church officials and international diplomats in Washington, D.C.
- Represent the Church at diplomatic functions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- 5+ years work experience in international relations, communications, public affairs, or related disciplines
- Formal writing experience with a strong command of grammar and protocol
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 (especially Excel) and Salesforce database tools; ability in Adobe Creative Cloud tools is a plus, but not required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when scheduling events, confirming calendar items, and drafting written correspondence
- Ability to work well in a team environment while also recognizing opportunities for taking initiative
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences in varied settings while demonstrating diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality
- Ability to work with and handle sensitive information
WORTHINESS QUALIFICATION
Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
