 TITLE: Staff Assistant

REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief of Staff

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Assistant provides administrative and operational support to our congressional office. Responsibilities include managing correspondence and phone inquiries, maintaining records and requests, assisting with office operations, and supporting constituent services. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

This is an in-office position based in Washington, D.C.

DUTIES:

·      answers and screens telephone calls for the Member and other staff members and takes messages;

·      maintains the office voice mail;

·      greets and screens visitors;

·      responds to and coordinate any constituent requests for flags, tours and other information; maintains the front office;

·      signs for deliveries and forwards all materials delivered to the office to appropriate staff members in a timely manner;

·      oversees Congresswoman’s personal correspondence program;

·      assist with constituent mail program;

·      assists with various administrative and legislative duties;

·      oversees the office’s internship program in collaboration with the Deputy Chief of Staff;

·      additional duties as assigned by the Member or staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

·      ability to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner in person and over the phone;

·      excellent organizational and proofreading skills;

·      excellent telephone, written, and interpersonal communication skills;

·      discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information;

·      ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;

·      availability to work extended hours, if necessary; and

·      knowledge of Michigan’s 8th District strongly preferred.

Ideal candidates will have relevant experience, have a heart for public service and helping others, be well-organized and detail oriented, and have the ability to collaborate with others and operate in a fast-paced, team environment. Michigan ties are preferred, but not required. Salary ranges from $45,000 to $50,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
