Job Description
New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Developmental Psychology program in the Department of Applied Psychology, to begin September 1, 2025. As the only Developmental Psychology PhD program offered at NYU, faculty and students excel in basic and applied research on social, cognitive, language, emotional, and identity development at the intersections of culture and context, at multiple levels and timescales.
The candidate will join the vibrant department of Applied Psychology. The department includes a large and active undergraduate program with research, theory, and action among its core pillars; Masters degree-granting programs in Counseling for Mental Health & Wellness and Human Development Research & Policy; and doctoral programs that enroll fully funded (5 years of fellowship) students in Developmental Psychology, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, and Psychology and Social Intervention. The department has an excellent track record of procuring extramural funding for research and training, supporting collaborative scholarship across disciplinary areas, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will conduct an active program of research including publications and extramural funding; teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students; and actively serve the program, Department, School, and University.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
Qualifications: We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in Developmental Psychology or related field who is engaged in an exciting and impactful program of research in developmental processes in infancy, childhood, or adolescence, with attention to family, school, community, racial, cultural, immigration, and/or socioeconomic contexts of development. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring and a record of success at obtaining research funding.
