Council of the Americas (COA) is seeking a talented and highly accomplished vice president to run its office in Washington, DC. The position is a member of the senior leadership team.
COA and its sister organization Americas Society (AS) are dedicated to greater dialogue and understanding among the countries of the Western Hemisphere, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Founded more than 60 years ago by David Rockefeller, and with a corporate membership of more than 200 companies, COA is the premier forum for the private and public sectors of the Americas to gather to discuss investment, shared prosperity, and the rule of law. The organization has its headquarters in New York City and has offices in Washington and Miami.
We are looking for a true entrepreneur and team player: Someone who can build relationships at the highest level in Washington, with a proven track record of bringing together leaders from the public and private sectors. The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraiser and will be responsible for the design and execution of all programming in Washington, including COA’s prestigious annual Washington Conference on the Americas and our Trade Advisory Group. The person will also be expected to work across the organizations to ensure delivery of programs on healthcare, economic integration, energy, and other topics relevant to the Washington community. The candidate will have deep knowledge of Washington’s political landscape and its linkages with politics and business in Latin America and the Caribbean. Private sector experience and relationships will be key assets for candidates. This position reports directly to the president and CEO.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cultivate deep relationships at the highest levels across the political spectrum in Washington, including senior figures at the White House, State Department, Congress, relevant agencies, embassies, multilateral organizations, and think tanks.
Build corporate membership in Washington, DC and the surrounding area, which includes finding new members and servicing our 200-plus corporate members.
Develop unparalleled expertise on Washington and its points of intersection with politics and business in Latin America and the Caribbean. Serve as a valued consultant and partner for members and other constituents while also representing the organizations as needed in testimony before Congress, in media appearances, and at key conferences.
Develop and manage COA’s Washington-based initiatives including special programs on economic integration, energy, trade, healthcare, and other topics of urgent interest to members.
Direct all aspects of COA’s annual Washington Conference on the Americas, which for more than five decades has been the leading Washington-based event for dialogue between the hemisphere’s public and private sectors.
Support the development and execution of fundraising efforts and sponsorship for programming across the organizations.
Ensure seamless collaboration and teamwork across all offices and departments of the organizations.
Promote AS/COA’s core values of democracy, shared prosperity, and the rule of law across the Americas.
Job requirements include:
Extensive experience in leadership roles in government and/or the private sector, preferably both.
Very strong knowledge of the political landscape in Washington, and a demonstrated ability to work with leaders across the political spectrum.
Proven track record as an effective manager and driver of high-impact events and programs.
Strong knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the politics and business of the region.
Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred.
This is a full-time position. Employees are currently working a hybrid schedule each week.
The compensation for this position ranges from $280,000 - $310,000. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the individual’s qualifications and experience.
