Back on My Feet seeks a Vice President of Talent to develop and operationalize employee engagement and retention strategies, ensure that the organization’s values are embedded at every level of the organization, and manage the growing organization’s increasingly complex HR function. This is a remote position.
About Back on My Feet
Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. Operating in 14 major cities coast-to-coast, Back on My Feet recruits members (those experiencing homelessness) at homeless and residential facilities and begins with a commitment to run or walk three days a week typically in the early morning. The second phase of the program, Next Steps, provides educational support, job training programs, employment partnership referrals, and housing resources.
Since 2007, Back on My Feet has served more than 8,000 individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness and engaged more than 100,000 volunteers and supporters. Members have run a collective 500,000 miles and obtained more than 5,000 jobs and homes. Within six months of becoming a Back on My Feet Alumnus, 90% of members maintain their employment, 60% receive a wage increase and 20% achieve a promotion. Every $1 invested in Back on My Feet returns nearly $2.50 to the local community through increased economic output from employment and reduction in costs for shelter, medical services, incarceration, and drug and alcohol treatment.

Background of A Highly Favorable Candidate:
BOMF seeks a high-energy, results-oriented individual to serve as its first Vice President of Talent. The successful candidate will be able to identify a need/opportunity, develop a plan to address it, communicate its value to leadership and staff, and be responsible for its operational implementation. They will be a focused contributor who can manage competing priorities and a proactive, assertive, and hands-on individual who is self-motivated and requires limited direction. The VP of Talent will be team-oriented as well as decisive, persuasive, and adaptable, possessing the strong interpersonal and leadership skills required for success in a fast-paced, changing environment. They will have an unequivocal passion for the organization, its mission, and the members it serves. The VP will possess unquestionable integrity and the highest ethical standards.
Professional Characteristics:
The Vice President of Talent will have 10+ years of progressive, successful Talent/HR experience, including strategy and employee development. They will have experience developing and supporting a cohesive organizational culture amongst a staff that is distributed across the country, including many who are the sole employee in their location. They will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, quickly assess organizational needs, adjust existing plans accordingly and manage quick turnaround times. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent public presentation skills, are required, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office Software. CRM database experience, SHRM or other similar certifications, and a blend of corporate and nonprofit experience are preferred. Familiarity with Market Based Management philosophy and how it relates to HR/Talent Management preferred.
Responsibilities:
● Develop and Implement Talent Onboarding, Engagement and Retention Strategies
● Evolve and Communicate Organizational Culture
● Provide Leadership/Management Coaching and Staff Training
● Lead Internal Employee Communications
● Manage, and improve as required, performance management and compensation review processes
● Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Efforts
● Oversee Employee Benefits, in conjunction with third party benefits service providers
● Maintain Employee Records and ensure compliance with organizational policy and all federal, state, and local laws
● Manage Payroll - in conjunction with the Accounting Coordinator.
● Provide Employee Support - respond to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs as required
● Other duties as assigned.
Compensation:
Up to $130,000 annually with very generous Health and Dental Plans, Travel and Medical Flex Reimbursement Plans, 401K match, generous PTO (unlimited - subject to supervisor approval) as compared with nonprofit industry standards. Flexible/remote work schedule (office space available depending on location).
Organizational Information:
The VP of Talent will report to the CEO and will provide key strategic and operational support to the management team which includes a CFO, Vice President of Development & Marketing, and a Vice President, Program and Evaluation. The organization currently has 40+ employees. The organization is governed by a National Board of 13 members, representing the corporate, financial, and legal sectors.

Back on My Feet is fully privately funded. It operates on a budget of roughly $7M annually, of which 47% comes from corporations, 42% from individuals, and 11% from foundations.
