Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) – a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration Oversight Subcommittee – seeks an experienced Press Secretary to develop and execute an aggressive, innovative communications strategy. The ideal candidate is collaborative, creative, and energetic with a sharp attention to detail, experience balancing multiple deadlines, and a strong track record of pitching national and local media outlets and drafting all forms of communications materials. This position reports directly to the Chief of Staff and is considered senior staff. This is not an entry-level position.

Responsibilities include proactively and strategically maintaining relationships with both national and local reporters; writing and editing press releases, talking points, quotes, speeches, statements, media advisories, briefings, video scripts, and op-eds; managing an aggressive and responsive social media program; collaborating with District Office and Legislative Staff to amplify the office’s work; preparing and staffing the Congresswoman for media activities; serving as the office’s on-the-record spokesperson; running a robust franked and paid communications program; collaborating closely with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (where Rep. Torres is the Vice Chair of Communications) and the New Democrat Coalition; and managing the Communications Team.

Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of political communications experience. Fluency in Spanish language or experience with Spanish language media is strongly preferred. California ties and prior Hill experience are also preferred but not required.
