Job Description

Purpose

The Development Associate works directly with the Executive Director and Development Coordinator to ensure that the program has the resources it needs to run smoothly and to provide a high quality educational experience for participants. They participate in proposal development and in prospecting for funding to enrich and expand the program. This includes: a) conducting research on philanthropic and government agencies who can be sources of support and funding to maintain and grow ongoing programs, and for new initiatives; b) participating in grant-writing; c) assisting with outreach to partners and donors.

The Development Associate actively pursues professional development through knowledge sharing and collaborative skill-building activities with colleagues.

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform fundraising research
    • Participate in proposal development and grant-writing
    • Researching, developing, and cultivating relationships with potential partners (private foundations; corporations; government)
    • Identifying and establishing new sponsors for the organization

Key Activities

  • Conduct research on foundations and their application requirements and deadlines
  • Support with proposal development and track deadline statuses
  • Maintain and update informational records on prospective donors
  • Assist with the preparation of program reports for funders

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to take initiative, interact well with people and work collaboratively
  • Ability to conduct research, organize information, and communicate concepts clearly and succinctly
  • Ability to manage and track multiple tasks and to meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and writing skills in English
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software or equivalent (i.e., Word, Excel and PowerPoint or other text editing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Background in non-profit development and fundraising

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.A. degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Passion and interest in L.O.V.E.’s empowerment mission
  • Demonstrated competency working with diverse and under-resourced communities
  • Ability to pass a background check
