Development Director

The Development Director will lead the organization's high-dollar financial strategy across the organization’s affiliate entities. This role involves securing significant donations from individual donors, foundations, and philanthropic groups, as well as thoughtfully managing donor relationships and participating in budget planning. The Development Director will drive innovation in fundraising approaches, ensuring continued growth and impact in advancing fair redistricting practices.

Salary: $130,000-$160,000 per year, based on years of relevant fundraising experience.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute high-dollar fundraising plans for four separate organizational entities (c3, c4, NDRC, PAC), driving innovation and recommending strategic adjustments as necessary.
• Secure five- and six-figure gifts from existing and new individual donors, private foundations, and philanthropic vehicles through donor meetings, salons, events, and call time with the NDRC Chair and members of the NDRC Executive team, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
• Develop and maintain a portfolio of current and prospective donors, with an emphasis on managing and stewarding relationships.
• Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual projections, ensuring careful tracking and that budget needs are met.
• Oversee the portfolio of philanthropic grants, including concept notes, grant proposals, and grant reports.
• Collaborate with and manage a team of consultants and development team staff members focused on major gifts, grants, and events aimed at securing large donations.

Required Qualifications: 

• Prior experience securing major gifts on a local, statewide, or federal campaign, and/or at a PAC, non-profit, or political organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including frequent travel, with maximum efficiency.
• Highly detail-oriented with the ability to juggle several projects at once.
• Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced environment and under deadlines.
• Self-starter who can lead new and existing initiatives and provide support for colleagues.
• Strong understanding of Excel/Google Sheets and ability to effectively organize fundraising data and projections.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with a principal.
• Familiarity with NGP VAN database.

Other Information: 

• This position is remote, but due to anticipated travel needs, the ideal candidate would be based in Washington, DC, NYC, or another East Coast location.
• The organization has a physical office located in downtown Washington, DC that local staff are welcome to work from.
• Salary for this position is $130,000-$160,000, based on years of relevant experience.
• Benefits include paid time off, immediate access to the organization’s 401(k) program with a 4% match, health care, dental and vision coverage, along with a stipend for cell phone use.
