Overview:

We are seeking a Global Affairs Lead to join the Hyundai Motor Group Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C. The Global Affairs Lead will advance the Government Affairs function for Hyundai Motor Group (“the Group”), ensuring proactive engagement and effective advocacy with government entities and think tanks that allows the Group to foster an environment conducive to achieving our objectives. You will play a crucial role in cultivating relationships with key decision-makers, tracking global policy developments, guiding strategic decisions on the most effective actions to influence relevant policy, and offering valuable insights on governmental and regulatory factors to consider when making decisions about our products and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay abreast of global trade dynamics and policy trends, providing insights into their implications for the company.
  • Monitor international trade agreements and geopolitical developments to assess their impact on our operations.
  • Attend relevant policy seminars, conferences, and government briefings, focusing on trade and global policy matters.
  • Distill complex information into concise and actionable memos/papers for headquarters, emphasizing the trade and policy landscape.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key government officials globally, with a specific focus on trade and policy decision-makers.
  • Manage the relationships with our think tanks, including but not limited to gathering relevant intelligence from these organizations, facilitating the engagement of the Group with their work, and communicating clearly and swiftly within the Group on information that is important to our business.
  • Collaborate with international teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with global government affairs initiatives, particularly in trade-related matters.
  • Provide guidance on potential impacts of global trade policies on the Group’s operations.
  • Use advanced knowledge to effectively communicate insights on global trade and policy trends to senior leadership, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Ensure the Group is well-informed about global policy dynamics in the context of trade without engaging in sales or pitches.
  • Exercise independent judgement to proactively identify and address emerging global issues related to trade and policies that may affect the Group’s operations.
  • Develop crisis management strategies for potential challenges arising from global trade and policy developments.
  • Be prepared to handle any government-related crisis situations that may arise. Develop contingency plans and communicate with internal and external partners during critical situations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Political Science, Public Administration, or Law) preferred.
  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • Ten or more years of experience with at least six years in Capitol Hill, Executive branch, and/or government affairs work.
  • Experience with thinks tanks a plus.
  • Understanding of issues in the automotive industry and an understanding of the industry, social and political ramifications issues.
  • Shown ability to navigate sophisticated government structures and build effective relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing government relations and advocacy efforts.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective government affairs strategies aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with government officials, legislators, and key stakeholders.
  • Proven understanding of the administrative state and how to impact it through political and policymaking processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and legislative processes.
  • Ability to develop and present Executive level presentations; superior written and public speaking skills; solid analytical reasoning and project management; supervisory skills.
  • Ability to act as spokesperson for the company.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office duties
  • Travel required
