Overview
- Storyline, an award-winning, Washington, D.C.-based storytelling and public affairs firm seeks a Director, Media and Public Affairs.
- Qualified candidates have at least 5 years of experience as account supervisors or managers at public affairs or public relations agencies. Prior journalism or campaign experience is a plus.
- The Director will work directly with Storyline’s founder and CEO in managing client relations, developing client programs and recommendations, supporting business development and implementing processes to streamline and enhance client and vendor relationships, helping build upon the firm’s track record of award-winning storytelling and growth.
- With roots in television, print, radio and digital media, Storyline brings a journalistic sensibility to its work, telling compelling stories that drive results. Our team of veteran communicators understands how to turn complex issues into stories that move opinion.
- Our work for clients includes Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, trade associations and prominent executives, government officials and high-net worth individuals.
- Now in our eighth year, we’ve worked across a range of industries including healthcare, energy, financial services, tech, non-profit and media.
Responsibilities
In the role of Director, you will work directly with Storyline clients, helping to devise public affairs campaigns and PR projects to address important audience persuasion goals. Our clients will depend on you to be organized, responsive, creative and thoughtful. You will create and execute communications plans to deliver measurable results.
You must offer agency experience with issue advocacy, PR and public affairs campaigns, strong writing skills and a solid understanding of and interest in how the media and Washington, state and local governments work.
You will:
- Build media strategies and lead the development of strategic communications plans and supplemental project plans.
- Manage Storyline’s content production team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, securing and managing coverage in local, regional and national print and broadcast outlets.
- Track client deliverables and timelines using project management tools.
- Maintain regular client communication, including reporting.
- Work on deadline.
- Anticipate and deliver on client needs.
- Serve as a thought leader with team members to meet client goals.
- Support the development of new business proposals and ideas.
A successful candidate will offer:
- A bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of public affairs firm or public relations agency experience.
- Experience working on campaigns with a public affairs firm or public relations agency.
- A strong track record of building media strategies, including placing a wide range of regional and national digital, print and broadcast stories.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to draft op-eds, press releases, media advisories, Q&A, talking points, statements, blog and social posts and other communication documents.
- Strong strategic instincts and the proven ability to develop and execute strategic integrated communications programs that deliver results.
- Experience leading a talented and dynamic team of communicators, producers, writers and editors, cultivating a collaborative atmosphere.
- Conceptual thinker with excellent organizational and prioritization skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience crafting pitch decks, proposals and other sales collateral.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office and Google Workplace tools. Video editing experience is a plus.
- Experience using AI tools and a willingness to experiment with them.
What We Offer
Storyline is committed to equity in compensation. Base compensation is $70,000 - $110,000. Other benefits include an annual performance-based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. Base compensation will be influenced by factors such as skillset, experience, and location. Storyline provides a generous benefits package including coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance; paid time off; 401(k) with an employer contribution and additional benefits.
