Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA (Sasakawa USA) is pleased to announce openings for full-time Associate Program Officers.
Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to deepening the understanding of and strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Japan for the benefit of a free and open international community. Its activities mainly focus on security and diplomacy, through exchanges, dialogue, analysis, publications, and networking.
Job Summary
The Associate Program Officer will provide programming support for several of Sasakawa USA’s programs, working directly with the Director of Programs. This is a full-time position.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Assist Director of Programs in planning and executing programs, projects or events
- Keep track of budgets and expenses for programs, projects or events
- Conduct preliminary/background research for Director of Programs
- Support to prepare outgoing grant proposals and reports
- Organize and review incoming grant proposals and reports
- Monitor social media and website content and coordinate with the relevant staff members to provide updates
Knowledge, Education, and Experience:
- Ability to succeed in both in-person and telework environments with a team spirit.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as International Relations, National Security, East Asian Studies, etc.
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of Japanese politics and economy, and U.S.-Japan relations with a focus on diplomatic and security relations is preferred.
- Demonstrated interested and understanding of Japanese society and culture.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Experience developing and producing programs and events.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Publishing and editing experience preferred.
- Proficiency with entire Microsoft Office Suite.
- Some level of Japanese language proficiency is preferred.
Working Hours
Working hours are 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. Mixed onsite and telework during the COVID-19 pandemic. Otherwise, work is conducted at Sasakawa USA’s office at 1819 L St NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20036. There is potential for travel domestically and internationally once it is safe to resume in-person programming. Occasional weeknight and/or weekend work is required (paid overtime).
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with work and academic experience. Health insurance coverage, a 401k plan, paid vacation, and sick leave are provided in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
