Overview:

The Biden for President campaign is seeking a Deputy Research Director to help lead the campaign’s opposition research program. This position will be responsible for developing both short and long term research products centered on the opposing candidates seeking the presidency. This position will also assist the Research Director with management of research associates and oversight of daily research team process and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the flow of incoming research requests and outgoing research products.
Develop and execute investigative research plans, including detailed summaries of public records requests, archival research, local collection trips, etc.
Provide rapid response and communications staff with succinct documents that can be used to generate public-facing content.
Lead the training, long-term management, and development of research associates.
Monitor the daily news cycle and breaking news events to identify opportunities for further research or to insert the team’s existing research into the national conversation to accomplish the campaign’s strategic goals.
Work with research associates to develop, guide, and edit research products and investigative materials.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

At least two cycles of experience in political research on a campaign or political committee, preferably in a leadership role.
Previous experience managing at least two researchers.
Deep understanding of politics, political campaigns, and the daily news cycle.
Extensive experience with investigative and archival research.
Ability to consistently generate ideas and think creatively about different avenues for investigative research.
Significant experience and ability to train research associates on LexisNexis, campaign finance databases, and other common research tools.
Ability to manage and track progress on long-term projects and appropriately delegate tasks to team members to complete projects on tight deadlines

Additional Useful Skills & Qualifications

A background in investigative journalism is not required but a plus.
Experience with audio and video research is a plus.
