Job Description 

The Zoldak Agency is seeking a Communications Strategist with 5+ years of communications experience for a federal contracting role at a federal agency in Washington, DC. This individual should be an independent worker who wants to further hone their skills as part of a team that authors communications for several high-profile public health issue campaigns on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).

Tasks

  • Participate and assist in program brainstorming, content development and strategic planning
  • Create content for internal and stakeholder communications including webinars, blogs and newsletters
  • Assist in developing digital content for social channels and websites
  • Support media relations by writing press releases and talking points
  • Edit and proofread written materials for quality and adherence to appropriate writing style
  • Provide client service and administrative support; attend meetings, take notes, handle scheduling logistics, and draft agendas and recaps

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience in communications or public relations
  • Excellent communications skills including oral, written, research, and editing skills
  • Ability to understand and explain complex policy issues to the public via all communications platforms
  • Fluent in digital media trends, strategies and best practices
  • Desire to work on public health issues
  • Independent worker who needs little hands-on oversight
  • Thinks beyond the given task and able to provide forward thinking recommendations
  • Solid project manager who is highly organized
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand nuanced needs of different teams and team structures, client and internally, and work with team members of different skillsets and executive levels
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and issues
  • Ability to interact and work directly with senior officials in federal government space
  • Maintains positive outlook and a positive work ethic
  • Ability to represent company brand and culture when offsite
  • Previous experience with federal contracting work and placement in federal agency environment is a plus
  • PR agency experience is preferred

Work Environment

  • Individual will work on extremely public, high-profile health issues that are top priorities under the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), a department of HHS
  • Work performed onsite at a federal agency location; will require government background check and screening
  • This is an independent contractor position working under a subcontract held by The Zoldak Agency; individual will represent The Zoldak Agency at the place of employment
  • Daily work performed Monday through Friday, approximately 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; additional hours may be required on an as-needed basis
