Job Description
District Press Secretary for Rep. Greg Stanton
The office of Congressman Greg Stanton seeks a strategic, action-oriented and politically savvy District Press Secretary based out of his Mesa, Arizona office.
Daily tasks include but are not limited to developing, pitching and staffing district press conferences, press events, and interviews; drafting press releases and media advisories; managing relationships with local press; drafting talking points and remarks; and supporting the communications team as needed. This position also requires the flexibility to work some nights and weekends.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in communications for elected officials, government agencies, non-profit organizations, or similar entities.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Track record of action-oriented/persuasive writing yielding results.
- Media Proficiency: Strong understanding of print, broadcast, and online media.
- Detail and Deadline-Oriented: Capable of producing high-quality communications materials under tight deadlines. Track record of exceptional planning and time management. Ability to work under pressure, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities at once.
- Team Player: Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, peers, and members of the press.
While this person will work very closely with District Office staff to support the Congressman’s work in Arizona, they will report to the Communications Director based in Washington, D.C. This is not an entry-level position, and title and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
