Job Description
Launched in 2024, the new Ideas & Opinions section is a marquee national platform for outside opinion commentators that showcases thought leadership across the political spectrum. Our section focuses on Politics, Policy and the Economy; World News; Education; Health & Wellness; Science & Technology; and Culture & Trends.
Your role in helping us shape the future:
The Ideas & Opinions intern will be an integral member of a small, collegial and entrepreneurial editing team. Your responsibilities will include deadline research on the day’s headlines, soliciting Op-Eds, fact-checking, editing and producing outside commentaries.
You will learn how to make Op-Ed assignments based on the day’s news and forward planning. You’ll learn how to edit commentaries for clarity, style and logical argumentation. You'll learn effective headline writing that maximizes SEO. You will learn to produce and illustrate articles in our content management system. You will help promote Op-Eds through social media and audience development.
You must be able to handle multiple short-term and longer-term assignments while meeting tight deadlines.
There may be a few opportunities to pitch and write up your own interviews with thought leaders for the Ideas & Opinions section, but this is an editing internship, not a reporting role.
Are you up to the challenge?
