About Boys to Men Mentoring Network and our work environment. We are a high-demand in-school group mentoring program serving teenage boys from 12 – 17 years old in middle and high schools with additional independent chapters all over the U.S. Our San Diego location is where the Boys to Men Mentoring program originated under co-founders Craig McClain and Joe Sigurdson. We currently partner with 40 schools serving over 1,000 struggling adolescent boys in San Diego.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Boys to Men Mentoring Executive Director, the Interim Director of Development will ensure the continuity and momentum of Boys to Men Mentoring’s fundraising efforts during a 6-month period. This role is a key leadership position focused on carrying forward the permanent Director of Development’s strategic development plan, maintaining the organization’s development plans, maintaining strong donor and funder relationships, supporting the onboarding and training of a new Development Assistant, supervising development contractors and volunteers, and sustaining fundraising initiatives. The Interim Director of Development will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth and successful transition back to the permanent staff member upon their return from leave, keeping all development activities aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fund Development and Strategy Execution

  • Implement and manage the approved annual fundraising plan, aligning activities with Boys to Men’s long-term goals, mission, vision, core values, and development priorities.
  • Oversee and support ongoing strategies for securing foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, private foundation gifts, direct mail campaigns, individual major gifts, sustaining members, and special event fundraising.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with donors, corporate partners, and foundations; ensure timely and meaningful stewardship.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, support the Executive Director and Board members with solicitation strategies and donor engagement.
  • Maintain the organization’s “Moves Management” system for donor cultivation and stewardship.

Development Department Management

  • Support the onboarding and training of the incoming Development Assistant to ensure successful integration into development operations.
  • Supervise development contractors and volunteers assisting with grant writing, donor communications, special events, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely gift acknowledgement, grant reporting, and database management (CRM).
  • Provide leadership in planning and executing special events, donor appreciation efforts, and cultivation activities.

Financial Oversight

  • Oversee, monitor, and manage the Development Department’s budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director and finance team.
  • Assist with financial reporting on fundraising progress for board, leadership, and committee meetings.

Internal and External Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with program staff to align fundraising goals with programmatic needs.
  • Engage actively with the Development Committee and Leadership Council Committee to advance fundraising strategies and cultivate supporter networks.
  • Serve on the organization’s senior management team, attending leadership meetings and Board of Directors meetings as needed.
  • Keep the Executive Director, Board Chair, and Development Committee Chair regularly informed on fundraising activities, strategies, and results.
  • Stay current on IRS regulations, best practices, and trends affecting charitable giving.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or higher; advanced studies are helpful but not required
  • 3-5 years of professional non-profit fundraising experience, direct experience with major gifts ($5,000+), donor stewardship, and grants management.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in achieving fundraising goals and managing comprehensive development programs.
  • Knowledge of fundraising programs, including annual giving, major gifts, deferred giving, and events.
  • Familiarity with donor database systems (DonorPerfect helpful), P2P and EMS platforms, email marketing, and social media.
  • Exceptional organizational, research, writing, public speaking, and donor engagement skills.
  • Proven, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs regularly, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read and communicate clearly in English.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $9,000.00 - $12,000.00 per month
