Job Description
The Office of Councilor Sharon Durkan seeks a Policy & Communications Assistant to support legislative research, policy development, and communications efforts. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual passionate about public service, community engagement, and policy impact. The Policy & Communications Assistant will work closely with the Councilor and her team to advance key policy initiatives, manage and facilitate the Councilor’s online presence and digital communications, and engage with constituents and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Legislative Support:
- Conduct research and draft policy briefs on issues relevant to the Councilor’s legislative agenda.
- Assist in tracking city ordinances, budget matters, and state and federal policies that impact the district.
- Support the drafting of resolutions, hearing orders, and policy proposals.
- Prepare briefing materials for meetings, hearings, and public events.
- Attend City Council hearings, take notes, and provide analysis as needed.
Communications & Public Engagement:
- Draft press releases, speeches, newsletters, and social media content.
- Monitor media coverage and assist with media relations.
- Develop messaging strategies for legislative initiatives and community outreach.
- Maintain and update website content and other digital platforms.
- Assist in planning and executing public events, town halls, and constituent meetings.
