JOB DESCRIPTION

Assist the implementation of Kroger’s federal government relations strategy specific to 84.51˚ and Kroger Precision Marketing (KPM). Expand Kroger’s license to operate by influencing key stakeholders in government and trade associations to support and shape the outcome of legislative and regulatory decisions. Responsible for political and trade association management. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as SME and business unit lead on all public policy matters involving data security, privacy, responsible AI, data ethics, retail media, and AdTech
  • Develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with members of the congress, administration, state government officials, industry peers and trade associations to drive key public policy objectives
  • Research and analyze issues, policies and pending legislation and regulations/ guidance to determine impact to organization from a federal and state perspective
  • Provide the business with regular updates of regulatory and legislative activities impacting media and privacy
  • Partner with the state government relations team to analyze state legislation and support advocacy efforts when needed
  • Serve in leadership roles on trade association and coalition government relations committees/public policy committees and develop industry relationships to help align and advance key policy objectives and priorities
  • Participate in industry groups to ensure concerns are including industry public affairs and legislative efforts
  • Attend legislative committee meetings and hearings and report summaries to business leaders
  • Devise and implement strategies related to participation in political activities necessary to support 84.51° and KPM via the KroPAC, advocacy efforts, elected official visits, and other engagement strategies for associates
  • Work closely with 84.51 and KPM businesses and its constituents to gain an in-depth understanding of the business, its products and solutions
  • Collaborate with media and privacy leaders to understand roadmaps, strategy and issues to develop legislative and regulatory strategy to support plans
  • Provide actionable foresight/ insight to stakeholders and become a trusted partner to the business
  • Develop and execute government affairs strategies leveraging company's internal business expertise, political, grassroots, executive and trade association assets to ensure successful outcomes on issues
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of Lobby Disclosure filings as required by the Office of the Clerk, House of Representatives as well as KroPAC filings with the Federal Election Commission
  • Travel independently up to 25%

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
  • 7+ years of experience of lobbying, legislative analysis, or government relations in Washington, D.C. and serving as a primary point of contact to legislative offices for an organization
  • Extensive network of reliable contacts within the Administration, Congress, Trade Associations and Political Organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and present arguments persuasively
  • Strong planning and organizational skills

DESIRED

  • Master's Degree in relevant field
  • Any experience in Washington, D.C. as a policy leader in a Congressional office, public affairs, retail, technology, data science, AdTech or corporate environment
  • Any prior experience with elected officials or political campaigns
