Duties

Serving as a Supervisory Law Enforcement Policy Advisor (International) GS-1801-14 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is within the International Training Division (ITD), NCR Training Operations Directorate (NCR), under the

Office of the Associate Director for Training Ops (TOPS) and located in Glynco, Georgia. The Supervisory Law Enforcement Policy Advisor (International) serves as the primary advisor to the Division Chief, ITD, in furtherance of the Assistant Director's (NCR) responsibilities as the enterprise-wide manager of FLETC's international activities.


Typical assignments include:


Identifying international training, technical assistance, and institutional development opportunities while providing linkages for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) components to those opportunities that advance DHS interests.

Providing analyses, interpretations, and opinions on a variety of legislative, regulatory actions, policies, and issues that range from relatively routine and straightforward to extremely complex and controversial, then providing briefings, reports and recommendations upon which decisions will be made that affect FLETC and the Department.

Facilitating the creation of mechanisms to streamline and optimize business processes, while providing the expertise and foreign law enforcement connections needed to enhance U.S. national security by building partner nation law enforcement law enforcement and criminal justice agency capacity.

Considering those capabilities when developing white papers outlining strategic opportunities with potentially long-range impacts on international training opportunities and programs.

Supervising, coaching, onboarding and qualifying subordinate personnel; ensuring acceptable performance levels and adherence to applicable department and agency policies.

Providing critical information for the mitigation of weaknesses through international training opportunities and targeting emergent skills necessary to advance FLETC's mission responsiveness to the international community and other training stakeholders.

Researching emergent international law enforcement training requirements. Assessing the law enforcement environment and international law enforcement threat responses affecting law enforcement training program operations, course development, content and delivery.

Preparing written papers detailing strategic considerations in order to maintain FLETC's mission responsive position as a critical and relevant component of the DHS.

Regularly meeting with senior DHS and other agency officials, and representatives of non-governmental law enforcement organizations, for the purpose of coordinating on behalf of DHS and FLETC on substantive policy issues related to and/or affecting the mission of FLETC and the Department.
