Duties

Serving as a Supervisory Senior Policy Advisor GS-0301-14/15 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission.


In this position you will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor responsible for functioning as a consultant and expert advisor to the Assistant Director (AD) and Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) on significant and sensitive issues impacting FLETC, its programs and organizations, and its relationships with Department of Homeland Security (DHS), other DHS components, federal agencies, and FLETC Partner Organizations (PO).Typical work assignments include:


Typical duties include:


Analyzing and developing policies and programs.

Supporting senior FLETC executive management officials in reviewing and preparing legislative and policy proposal packages for FLETC and Department-wide coordination.

Analyzing, administering, and leading efforts supporting a diverse variety of programs/projects.

Independently reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating reports, proposals, studies, etc., submitted to MRSD for action to ensure that they meet the Director's requirements.

Leading the development of component-level responses on issues involving policy, Congressional testimony and inquiries, and other diverse mission-critical matters.

Represents FLETC and the directorate on internal and external initiatives.

Serving as the MRSD's liaison in many areas, often involving controversial, complex, and unprecedented issues and other matters that impact FLETC-wide, agency, and Departmental operations.

Maintaining liaison and initiates contact with other agency officials in the interest of creating mutually advantageous relations in matters of interest to the Director and FLETC.

Providing liaison to senior Departmental officials and other federal agencies, including the Office of Management and Budget and the Government Accountability Office on matters related to FLETC's mission.

Participating in, or chairing selected aspects of, special training, administrative, and senior management committees (ad hoc and standing) and working groups.

Represents FLETC's and the MRSD's interests on committees involving organizations, initiatives, and processes with the widest possible range of consequences.

Maintaining progress reports and records, preparing written summaries, and conducting oral briefings for the AD and DAD.

Facilitating effective stewardship of resources.

Overseeing projects involving the most effective allocation and commitment of MRSD resources.

Working with colleagues across directorate lines to develop recommendations for the AD and DAD regarding effective allocation of resources.

Writing, refining, and editing documents in support of FLETC's annual budget (e.g. Congressional Justifications, Budget in Briefs, etc.).
