The Office of Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14)member of the House Committee on Appropriations, seeks an experienced Policy Advisor or Legislative Assistant (depending on experience and qualifications) to cover health and veterans’ policy. The Policy Advisor’s primary focus will be working with the Legislative Director, Chief of Staff, and Member to advance the objectives of the Black Maternal Health Caucus, which Rep. Underwood co-chairs.

The Policy Advisor will implement the Member’s legislative agenda within their policy portfolio. Responsibilities of this position include drafting and analyzing legislation; building and managing stakeholder coalitions; conducting research; drafting policy memos, talking points, and remarks; meeting with constituents; staffing events and hearings; and other duties as assigned. Essential strengths of successful candidates include the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, excellent research and writing, strong interpersonal and advocacy skills, and a working knowledge of federal policymaking. 

This is not an entry-level position; a strong background in health policy is requiredThe salary range is $65,000 - $80,000, also depending on experience and qualifications. Hill experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
