This position is located in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), U.S. Trade Representative. The incumbent serves as the Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative (DAUSTR) for assigned area and advisor to the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for the Office of Japan, Korea & APEC Affairs.
Duties
As a Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative (DAUSTR), GS-0301-15, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Advises senior trade officials on the development and implementation of U.S. Government objectives, trade policies, and negotiation strategies involving Japan.
Provides leadership within USTR for planning, directing, and coordinating activities on matters relating to all aspects of the trade issues with Japan including the U.S. - Japan Partnership on Trade and other bilateral and plurilateral initiatives.
Represents the U.S. government in its contacts with foreign governments and during negotiations.
Develops USTR positions on legislation; prepares testimony and briefing materials to be used by the U.S. Trade Representative and other senior USTR officials in connection with Congressional hearings.
Assists the AUSTR in leading and directing, in collaboration with colleagues, the development of policy positions, as well as the planning and formulation of negotiating positions and tactics to be taken by the U.S. on issues relating to trade in areas related to Japan trade issues.
Explains and defends the Administration's trade policies relating to foreign governments, the public, the press, and the Congress.
