The Biden for President Campaign is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to serve as Communications Director to the Second Gentleman. This role will report to the Second Gentleman’s Chief of Staff with a dotted line to the Vice President’s Communications Director. The Communications Director will be instrumental in developing and executing a strategic communications plan to further the Second Gentleman and Biden-Harris campaign’s priorities and ultimately help secure a victory November.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive social and traditional media strategy for team SG
  • Serve as Second Gentleman’s primary communications strategist and advisor
  • Pitch and coordinate press interactions including local and national interviews, podcasts, briefings, and events
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all national and local media inquiries relating to the Second Gentleman
  • Help oversee social media accounts, management of social media coordinator, and provide input on weekly and quarterly social calendar
  • Draft press releases, advisories, talking points, and other communications materials to help convey key messaging ensuring that it is aligned with overall campaign messaging
  • Help manage and oversee the work of team SG speechwriter and provide backup drafting of speeches and talking points as necessary
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key members of the press
  • Work closely with Biden Harris campaign communications team and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency with team SG messaging
  • Monitor media coverage and provide key updates as they happen to team SG
  • Help prep SG for media appearances and provide media training as needed
  • Manage crisis communication situations along with team leadership
  • Lead tall he communications side planning of SG engagements and events·

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and messaging skills
  • Ability to communicate a great story in a succinct, relatable, and compelling manner to a variety of audiences
  • Proven experience in media relations, public relations or communications in a government, campaign or agency setting
  • Knowledge of current media trends, digital platforms, and social media strategies
  • Flexibility and willingness to quickly adapt and roll with the punches
  • Strong sense of urgency, unquestionable work ethic
  • Sense of humor and can-do attitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Campaign experience preferred, but not required
  • Ideally at least 5 years of work experience
