As the Harlem Globetrotters build on our 99-year storied history, we are seeking a dynamic individual to join the internal communications team. As the Communications Coordinator, you will assist in elevating the global brand across every facet of communications, from consumer to corporate with a concentration on both domestic and international publicity needs.
Your passion for the Harlem Globetrotters and the mission is matched only by your quick witted, adaptive and story driven approach to publicity, media relations savviness and ability to multi-task, organize, work closely with talent, and across multi-departments: including marketing, licensing, partnerships, talent relations, and much more.
This full-time in-person position within the Harlem Globetrotters International (HGI) Communications Division is located at our Corporate Office in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and reports to the Head of Corporate Communications.
Requirements:RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in writing and editing of all communications materials including the weekly “In the News” press update, media alerts, and player bios
- Assist communications team in developing and implementing publicity events, stunts, and appearances designed to further company objectives
- Works to proactively research, develop and pitch story ideas for branded entertainment campaigns, player engagement and live events
- Coordinates assembly and distribution of any needed PR press kits
- Supports PR agency and consultant roles on implementation of project and deliverables
- Search, compile, and distribute video footage, photography and other assets for communications usage
- Respond to media inquiries and maintain relationships with journalists and other members of the press
- Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices
- Coordinate volunteers, support staff, vendors and more to support promotional events
- Perform outreach to press outlets, magazines, influencers and build strategic partnerships to grow brand notoriety
- A true collaborator working with cross functional teams, agencies and partners to develop campaigns, initiatives and go-to-market activations
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations or Journalism preferred
EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years of publicity and communications experience
- Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices
- Experience with and comfortability with public speaking
SKILLS
- Have a genuine passion for the world-famous, Harlem Globetrotters with sports driven basketball knowledge
- Superior time management, top organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, born collaborator, excellent planning, and multi-tasking skills
- Insatiable curiosity and a willingness to go the extra mile on projects and assignments
- Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills and a desire to deepen skills that may need strengthening.
- An analytical mind and ability to think critically
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Skilled in Google docs, MS Word, Excel, Canva, Powerpoint and capable of creating visually compelling presentations
