About the Position

This is a locally engaged staff position at an overseas Australian Diplomatic Mission.

This is a 2-year term of employment with the possibility of renewal.

Reporting directly to the Consul-General, the Director Public Diplomacy, Policy and Strategy is responsible for leading the Australian Governments public diplomacy and strategic objectives in the New York and North-eastern states of the US. The role is also responsible for undertaking research and analysis and providing advice to the Consul General on issues that directly support Australia’s international policy priorities and key relationships and networks within the business and investment community.

The position oversees a team responsible for engaging and influencing priority stakeholders in support of policy outcomes in the areas of political and government affairs, business and investment, critical technologies, First Nations Diplomacy, arts and culture, sports, academia, and media and communications.

Work Authorisation Requirements

Applicants for this position must apply for a G-1 visa on the basis of an offer of employment if they do not already fall into one of the employment eligibility categories below:

Australian Citizen with permanent residency (Green Card holder)
Already in possession of a G-1 Spousal Visa

G-1 visas are valid for 5 years and are renewable provided you are still gainfully employed in your position.

Additional Information

This position is a designated security assessed position. Applicants must be Australian citizens to apply. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT recognised security clearance. Security clearances can take several months to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate clearance is confirmed. There is no guarantee that the successful candidate for the position will be successful in obtaining a clearance. The inability to obtain a clearance prevents that applicant from being employed and loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
