Worker Designation
– This role is hybrid. This means you will be expected to report to one of our Aflac offices located in Washington, DC for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Political Science, Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Media, Public Policy or a related field
  • Minimum Required 8 years of professional job-related work experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads public affairs communications initiatives with headquarters and field force including monthly newsletter and geopolitical update, policy explainers, presentations, etc.
  • Develops communications materials, in partnership with internal teams, that effectively tell the Aflac story and resonates with external Washington, DC audiences; for example, fact sheets, one pagers, Q&As, website content, social media materials, etc.
  • Supports Senior Vice President and team senior leadership with talking points, presentations, social media materials, etc. for public speaking engagements
  • Supports the Director, Public Affairs in identifying opportunities for public affairs engagement, message sentiment and metrics tracking, etc.
  • Works closely with external public affairs consultants to implement public affairs and communications plans
  • Assists in managing brand and visual identity for team in partnership with internal teams
  • Fosters and builds relationships with public affairs and communications professionals in relevant trade associations, think tanks, non-profits and other organizations in order to leverage available resources and create outlets of opportunity that amplify Aflac’s message
  • Becomes the team Subject-Matter Expert (SME) on industry best practices, technologies, and methods for executing public affairs and communications strategies
  • Works independently to analyze issues to determine best solutions; sets priorities, plans and organizes workload, and meets established deadlines; maintains consistent communication to ensure proper management intervention
  • Leads and coordinates projects of moderate complexity; participates in division or other company-wide projects for the department or works with employee groups producing/originating solutions to improve service and other initiatives that normally impact the division, department, and/or business unit
  • Be fully committed to the Aflac Way and the federal relations team norms, to include active engagement with teammates and team activities in order to enhance overall team camaraderie and effectiveness
  • Performs other related duties as required

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $160,000.
