Arnold & Porter is seeking a Senior Policy Specialist for the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in the Washington, DC office. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience working in Congress, an Executive branch department or agency, an association, interest group, or company in the government relations field. Experience working on education, appropriations, transportation, and technology is preferred but not required, as this position will work across a number of policy sectors every day.

 

The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is Chambers-rated as one of the top legislative practices at a national law firm. The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is comprised of approximately 35 people and works in a high-energy, fast-paced environment that rewards initiative and teamwork in the pursuit of quality client service. The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group advocates for clients before the United States Congress and the departments and agencies of the Executive branch. Professionals in this group include Executive branch political appointees and a bipartisan group of congressional staff alumni. The primary focus of the group is on Congressional and regulatory advocacy on topics including appropriations, defense, education, environmental and energy, financial services, foreign relations, healthcare and life sciences, tax, telecommunications, trade, and transportation. Clients include globally recognized brands, Fortune 500 companies, innovative start-ups, leading associations, healthcare systems, educational institutions, units of local government, foreign governments, and coalitions. The healthcare lobbying team’s clients include manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, devices, and medical technology, hospitals and health systems, medical specialty societies and other healthcare providers, non-profits, health IT providers, coalitions, and other healthcare stakeholders.

  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor‘s degree required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in Congress, the Executive branch, at a trade association, interest group, or for a corporation in government relations. 
  • Well-versed in the federal legislative process.
  • Demonstrates strategic focus, self-motivation, and a drive to action.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in oral and written form.
  • Exhibit significant attention to detail and produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Must possess good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to be registered for firm clients under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.
