The Vice President, Global Health Equity & Policy Partnerships is responsible for: 1) Driving Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Health Equity strategy and execution in line with our commitment to “leave no patient behind”, engaging key internal/external stakeholders involved in global health equity and healthcare systems strengthening such as governments, multi-lateral organizations (MLOs), healthcare professionals, patient advocacy organizations, trade associations and think tanks. 2) Driving strategic external policy partnerships including new/enhanced multi-stakeholders’ coalitions to help shape policies that enable inclusive, equitable, sustainable and patient-centric healthcare (aligned with BMS key disease areas), thereby enhancing patient access to innovation, also optimizing efficiency/resource allocation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Global Health Equity:

  • Oversee/drive a coordinated and integrated enterprise-wide strategy and action plan for health equity and excellence about diverse and underserved populations, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners in Commercial, Medical, R&D, the BMS Foundation HR, D&I, Policy and Government Affairs, Business Insights and Analytics and Corporate Communications to deliver Health Equity initiatives and messaging that support broader awareness/adoption across the enterprise.
  • Set/drive Bristol-Myers Squibb engagement strategy with external stakeholders focusing on health equity improvement for the most at-risk individuals addressing social determinants/drivers of health.
  • Provide strategic resource for health equity expertise and technical assistance to BMS leadership/teams
  • Strategic input on D&I Health Equity Commitments Governance Committee/Monitoring & Evaluation.
  • Set/Coordinate Enterprise-wide strategy/execution of comprehensive approaches for access to BMS portfolio in low resource settings (Capacity Building, Voluntary Licensing, Tiered Pricing, Donations)

2. Global Policy Partnerships:

  • Oversee/drive BMS’ strategic policy partnerships, initiating or joining as appropriate global multi-stakeholders policy coalitions such as All.Can, Blood & Beyond, Access Accelerated, City Cancer Challenge, BMGF initiatives aligning closely with matrix functions (Corporate Affairs, Franchises, Markets, HEOR, R&D, Access, BI&A, BMS Foundation), facilitating best practice/capabilities sharing, influencing policies in favor of patient access to innovation/improved resource allocation that lead to better patient/societal outcomes as well as sustainability and resilience of healthcare systems.
  • Works closely with internal/external stakeholders to pro-actively identify/address the most critical policy/ESG issues in a way that strengthens the innovation ecosystem and optimizes timely patient access to care/innovative medicines.
  • Leads the coordination of BMS Engagement on Global Policy Partnerships with NY, Geneva, Paris, Brussels based organizations involved in global health (WHO, EU, OECD etc.).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Global Health Equity and leading successful partnerships/multi-stakeholders coalitions, Government Affairs, Access Initiatives, working in a complex global health environment with key stakeholders including multilateral organizations
  • Well-versed in international public health issues; understand the current challenges and approach them with optimism, integrity, and passion for creating real and sustainable change
  • Proven ability to successfully influence global healthcare policy and/or experience working in a complex global health international NGO, leading health development programs are preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the biopharmaceutical business model/industry experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, foster teamwork and drive performance. Excellence in leading people with strong emotional intelligence and a focus on people development are preferred.
  • Flexible team member with positive attitude, energy and ability to prioritize projects
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical topics into understandable messages for internal and external audiences
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and balance strategic thinking with operational excellence
  • Excellent organizational skills and consistent attention to detail
  • Postgraduate or advanced degree in public health policy, science, business, economics, political science and/or law or relevant area preferred
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (other languages desirable)
  • Ability to travel to remote geographic locations consistent with a global health focus
