Deputy Counterterrorism Coordinator

Summary

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), DHS Headquarters, Immediate Office of the Secretary (OS). The primary purpose of this position is charged with coordinating counterterrorism-related activities - including intelligence, planning, operational, and policy matters - across DHS agencies and representing the Department's relevant equities across the interagency and externally.


Duties

The DHS Counterterrorism Coordinator Office reports to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and this position serves as the Deputy to the CT Coordinator and as an alternate to DHS's principal counterterrorism officials to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and other DHS senior leadership.


Specific responsibilities include:


Coordinating with DHS agencies and interagency partners to ensure departmental CT and targeted violence policies, plans and programs are appropriately developed, coordinated, integrated, aligned and implemented.

Overseeing creating and managing issue-specific working groups to deal with specific CT-related challenges and problems facing the Department.

Supporting the CT Coordinator in directing the Department's CT Task Force, focusing on cross-departmental problems and challenges affecting multiple DHS component organizations.

Supporting the CT Coordinator in overseeing the execution of the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS), which provides information to the public about the evolving threat environment and steps/resources available to keep the public safe and secure.

Collaborating with the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis in support of efforts to refresh and refocus the Counter Threats Advisory Board (CTAB) as a department-wide coordination mechanism.

Supporting the CT Coordinator in identifying specific organizational changes needed to enhance the coordination and effectiveness of the Department's CT and targeted violence-related programs.

Supporting the CT Coordinator in supervising the CT Coordinator Office staff. Works with relevant headquarters elements to identify the personnel and financial resources needed to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Office.

In the absence of a designated CT Coordinator, serves as the Acting CT Coordinator.
