The Office of Representative Jim Himes is seeking to hire an intern in Washington D.C. office. The Summer Internship Program is open to undergraduate- and graduate-level students and recent graduates. The application deadline is April 5th at 5:00 pm EST. The internship program will start on May 13th, 2024, and end on August 23rd, 2024, subject to change per accepted interns' schedules.

Job Expectations:

Interns serve essential roles for the office by attending briefings and hearings, conducting research, and drafting correspondence and memoranda. In addition, interns provide a welcoming environment of the Member office to constituents, visitors, and other VIPs. They also handle incoming calls and capture input from constituents on policy matters for the Member office’s consideration.

Job Duties:

· Provides a welcoming environment and positive first impression of the Member office to constituents, visitors, and other VIPs

· Handles incoming calls with poise, professionalism, and promptness

· Assists Member and key staff (e.g., Staff Assistant, Scheduler, Chief of Staff) with logistical and administrative duties

· Receives and logs input from constituents on policy matters for the Member office’s consideration and response

· Assists with constituent flag requests, tours of the Capitol, and arranging visits to other national landmarks

· Attends briefings and hearings, collects Member signatures, delivers time sensitive Member to Member correspondence, conducts research, and drafts correspondence and memoranda

Requirements:

· Professional and positive demeanor while interacting with visitors, staff members, and stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment

· Time management skills including the ability to prioritize, and track work status

· Attention to detail

· Willingness to learn

· Effective communication skills for verbal and written correspondence
