Job Description

About the Organization

It is an exciting time at the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) as we continue to undertake our mission of providing good, nutritious food today and food to enable brighter futures. On an annual basis CAFB distributes about 40 million meals worth of food through a network of hundreds of partners across the DMV. We know that creating long term solutions to food security requires more than meals. It requires education, training, and collaboration across the public, private and social service ecosystems. We are seeking people with strong ideas and a passion to come together to address the complex interrelated issues of food security, poverty, and equity. We are expanding in multiple ways: providing food for today and addressing the root causes of hunger by partnering with organizations that provide critical services like job training programs, health care and education. Food has the power to transform lives and move everyone forward. Find out how on our website at capitalareafoodbank.org. Let us discuss how food is at the center of everyone's healthy life!

Description

The Capital Area Food Bank is looking for an experienced and motivated leader to help scale its impact on food insecurity through social business strategies. The CAFB’s premier initiative in market-based solutions to food insecurity is Curbside Groceries, a mobile grocery store that sells quality produce, meat, and shelf stable items in neighborhoods where food access is a challenge. Curbside has launched in Washington DC’s Ward 8 and in Prince George’s County, Maryland and is building towards profitability. Over the next year, CAFB will invest in Curbside Groceries’ business model to help it establish and scale.

The Program Manager of Social Business will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Curbside Groceries, implementing, and scaling a pilot that seeks to create new avenues of healthy food access in high need communities. This project’s unique quality is its ability to bring a variety of high-quality, affordable, healthy foods into neighborhoods with limited grocery store access. The Manager will work closely with program coordinators and drivers and will be the face of the project in the community.

Additionally, the Program Manager of Social Business will be responsible for supporting the research, design and development of other market-based approaches to addressing food insecurity for consideration as part of CAFB’s longer term strategy. In collaboration with the Program Director of Social Business, the Program Manager will help to research and develop two to three market- based initiatives for implementation in the next year.
