Summary

In accordance with the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 signed into law by the President on March 15, 2022, $765 million has been appropriated to the U.S. Department of State to establish the "United States Mission to the Metaverse".

In most countries with which it has diplomatic relations, the U.S. maintains an embassy, which usually is located in the host country capital. The U.S. also may have consulates in other large commercial centers or in dependencies of the country.

The Chief of Mission — with the title of Ambassador will head the mission’s “country team” of U.S. Government personnel.

Responsibilities

The Ambassador to the Metaverse will be responsible for the following:

• Speaking with one voice to others on U.S. policy–and ensuring mission staff do likewise–while providing to the President and Secretary of State expert guidance and frank counsel;
• Cooperating with the U.S. legislative and judicial branches so that U.S. foreign policy goals are advanced;
• Taking direct responsibility for the security of the mission — including security from terrorism — and protecting all U.S. Government personnel on official duty
• Carefully using mission resources through regular reviews of programs, personnel, and funding levels
• Reshaping the mission to serve American interests and values

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements, including education, and any selective placement factors described below by the closing date of this announcement.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience developing and recommending solutions to complex problems using tact, negotiation, and diplomacy in the event of competing or conflicting views.

Experience coordinating and preparing briefing materials regarding international security and foreign policy matters, recommending appropriate action for senior Bureau or Department Officials.

Experience recommending overall work objectives in relation to political-military affairs.

Capable of wearing VR headset 24 hours a day.

Must be willing to relocate full time to the metaverse.
