Job Description
The Office of Senator Ruben Gallego seeks an experienced Counsel to oversee legal and policy issues related to the federal judiciary, civil rights, ethics, campaign finance, cybersecurity, and related topics. This position will support the Senator’s work on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Additionally, the Counsel will play a key role in coordinating oversight efforts across the legislative team and providing internal guidance on HR-related matters.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising the Senator on legal and policy matters within the portfolio, drafting and advancing legislative initiatives with a focus on bipartisan solutions, representing the Senator in meetings with constituents, and collaborating with stakeholders in Arizona and DC to advance the Senator’s policy priorities. The Counsel will also serve as the Senator’s primary legal advisor on judicial nominations and ethics-related issues.
The ideal candidate will have a law degree (J.D.) and be a member in good standing of a state bar. Strong writing, research, and analytical skills are essential. Congressional or executive branch experience is strongly preferred, along with a demonstrated ability to translate complex policy issues into clear and actionable recommendations. Familiarity with Arizona’s legal and policy landscape is a plus.
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Washington, D.C. Salary is commensurate with experience. Senator Gallego’s office is an equal opportunity employer.
