Job Description
A New York City Council Member’s Office is seeking a Community Liaison to work with residents of the Council District to address problems facing their communities. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and Council Member, the liaison will field constituent requests from within the district, seeking timely and satisfactory responses to those requests from various City agencies. They will furthermore attend community events, and will work closely with local leaders, other elected officials’ offices, and community-based organizations to secure the best outcomes for the district.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work alongside a small team of Community Liaisons to manage the constituent services caseload.
- Field emails, phone calls, and letters from various constituents and community groups who are seeking assistance.
- Address issues with relevant city agencies or service providers via phone and email to secure best outcomes for constituents/groups.
- Follow up with city agencies and service providers to track progress and ensure resolutions.
- Monitor community activities and attend events so as to keep a pulse on the district’s needs/issues.
- Inform the team about in-district cases, issues, and projects.
- Represent the Council Member/office at community meetings and events, including Community Boards, Business Improvement Districts, and cultural institutions.
- Draft talking points, speeches, memos, and testimony for the Council Member when necessary.
- Coordinate with the Communications Director and Legislative & Budget Director on relevant matters in the community.
Qualifications :
- Experience in case management, constituent services, or other applicable fields, ideally in New York City.
- Demonstrated project management and creative problem solving experience.
- Some knowledge of New York City and its neighborhoods.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and pay attention to details.
- Demonstrated commitment to working well with co-workers, while ensuring a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive workplace.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex legislative issues into digestible, easy to understand content for community members.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
