The Community Education Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position integral to the Education division and Boston Ballet’s efforts to engage community constituents through all its artistic work.  Boston Ballet’s Education and Community Initiatives (ECI) department, aims to make ballet accessible and cultivate a new generation of life-long arts advocates and participants. The department’s programs serve a range of community constituents. Its educational programs, Adaptive Dance, CityDance, and ECI on Location, engage students from grades pre-K-12 and adults in Boston’s public schools and communities.

 

About the Educational Programs:

CityDance: provides third grade students in Boston Public Schools with a tuition-free introduction to dance education. Our approach cultivates an appreciation of movement, enhances cultural awareness, and fosters creativity and self-expression through two distinct acts. 

ECI on Location: provides off-site movement-based programming for individuals in grades 3 and up. Schools and organizations can choose specific areas of focus based on the unique needs of the students with whom they are working. Areas of focus include: Gender-specific, Interdisciplinary, Introduction to Dance Technique, arts appreciation and Choreography/Composition. 

Adaptive Dance: provides creative movement instruction to individuals with disabilities ages 2 through adult. Students can engage and explore in a safe and supported studio environment as they develop movement, musicality, and personal/social growth. Fully inclusive classes as well as specialized classes for individuals with Autism and specialized classes for individuals with Down syndrome are offered weekly in the fall and spring.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The individual in this role is responsible for providing strong, centralized administrative support to the community facing programs by coordinating the logistics of the ECI department, supporting and enhancing staff and constituent management processes and assisting other Boston Ballet School (BBS) colleagues and initiatives when collaboration is needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Administration:

·       Provides programmatic, and operational support to the Faculty and Assistant Principal of Community Education

·       Provides on-site supervision of part-time staff, including faculty, musicians, physical therapist volunteers, and part-time intern; plays a support role in all hiring decisions

·       Provides staff schedules and communication of shifts, assign staff shifts

•      Serves as a primary customer service contact

o  Provides on-site support for programming by connecting with families and students, assisting Studio Administrators with registration and programming questions, ECI class set up and logistics, in-class support

•      Conducts intake interviews for prospective families interested in Adaptive Dance

•      Creates and tracks surveys for special events and programming

•      Serves as department co-lead with Boston Ballet School Student Services for all registration and tracking efforts associated with community programming

 

Operational Support:

•      Assists in staff contract management

•    Assists Assistant Director, School Marketing and Assistant Principal of Community Education with communications

o  Provides content for on-going e-communication and social media campaigns

o  Reviews e-communications 

o  Works closely with Marketing team to design and create digital and print collateral

•      Supervises program operations and supply inventory (nametags, binders, etc.)

•      Collaborates with BBS and BB on studio space scheduling/booking as well as Citizens Bank Opera House events                        


Workshops and Events:

·       Provides on and off-site support for programs and events

·       Conducts outreach to raise awareness about workshops, story-time, etc.

·       Assists in achieving annual goals related to workshops, tours, and related work; creates plans for integrating participants of these activities into other ECI and BBS programs

·       Provides leadership for subsidized ticketing efforts for ECI community partners in partnership with Box Office and Boston Ballet Marketing Department 


Requirements:

•                Bachelor’s Degree preferred

•                Minimum 2+ years of administrative experience

•                Must have a flexible schedule including evening and weekend availability; Tuesday—Saturday schedule during the run of key department programs (Citydance—15 weeks, Adaptive Dance two 10-week time frames, and some weekend day workshops)

•                Strong organization and communication skills; strong attention to detail

•                High level of competency with Microsoft Office Suite: experience with Tessitura a plus

•                Efficient and proactive problem solver; strong cross-functional operating skills

•                Enthusiasm for arts and education work

•                High level of comfort working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds; multilingual skills a plus

•                Commitment to learning and implementing formal assessment practices

•                Commitment to diversity and equity via access programming

•                Flexibility, positive attitude and good work ethic

•                Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team

•                Knowledge of Inclusive and Universal Design practices a plus
