Job Type: Full-Time; Year-Round; 40 hours per week; frequent weekends and evenings required; Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $27.88-$28.85 per hour

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Inc. (RIPA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, public programs, cultural events, and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall’s Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops, and programs the Park to support the wellbeing of all New Yorkers.
The Public Programs Coordinator will plan, execute and facilitate various community and family-based programs on Randall’s Island with a focus on arts and culture, health and wellness, and environmental education. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of RIPA’s public programs in close coordination with various departments, stakeholders, and partners. The Coordinator will also represent RIPA’s programs to the public, and ensure all components of programming in collaboration with colleagues and partners, are well-organized and successfully executed. The Public Programs Coordinator will report to the Public Programs Manager and Director of Environmental Programs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of RIPA’s programmatic offerings and implement day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Handle program logistics and administrative responsibilities, including coordination with outside specialists and across departments under supervision of the Public Programs Manager.
  • Plan and facilitate programs, festivals, tours, classes, special events, exploration days, art programs, movie nights, volunteer activities, etc.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Public Programming team, events, and activities.
  • Help to oversee interns and to design and implement workforce development.
  • Work closely with other teams to activate and program a diversity of parks spaces, including the Urban Farm, natural areas, and gardens.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, schools, and individuals to increase awareness and public participation in programs at Randall’s Island Park.
  • Implement events in the field including set-up, hosting during the event, break-down, and keeping material inventory for the department.
  • Maintain detailed records and provide reports of program visits, facility usage, event attendance, waivers, contact information and all related data.
  • Implement strategies for collecting meaningful feedback from program participants.
  • Represent RIPA and conduct outreach in the park and at community events, interacting with park patrons, partners, and stakeholders to build awareness and engagement in RIPA’s programs and park amenities.
  • Organize and update the programming calendar.
  • Support the Communications department by gathering content for social media posts about RIPA’s programs and give input regarding outreach materials such as field guides, brochures and flyers when needed.
  • Support park-wide initiatives, programs, and events.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • B.A. from an accredited college and a minimum of two years’ experience in public programming and/or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties described above OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college and a minimum of three years of experience in public programming and/or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties described above.
  • Strong event planning, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced work environment, pivoting priorities, when needed.
  • Ability to articulate and advocate for RIPA’s mission.
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, consult, and report on programs.
  • Advanced planning and organizational skills, as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate and create positive working relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent follow-through with tasks and assignments with persistent correspondence to program partners and attendees.
  • Punctual and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Ability to perform physical labor; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working outside in varied weather conditions
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiar with environmental education, arts and cultural programming, health/wellness, recreation programs in a public space
  • Experience with coordinating outdoor programming, public events, and volunteer projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Strong interest in public parks and green spaces.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
