WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience; experience in voting rights, election law, language access, or community and event organizing strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and/or access to alternative means of transportation.
  • Bilingual / biliterate in at least one Asian language (Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, or Vietnamese) preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Director of Litigation, the Voting Rights (VR) Program Manager is responsible for leading local and statewide advocacy support for Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Southern California and will serve as organization’s local engagement lead to AANHPI and partner community-based organizations (CBOs). Utilizing a strong understanding of multi-cultural community coalition building, and organization’s policy priorities and goals, this position will identify opportunities for collaboration to elevate awareness of key Voting and Representation issues to enhance engagement and advocacy of AAPI communities and partners. This position will also supervise projects that involve attorneys and legal advocates working within their VR duties.

You day-to-day responsibilities

50% Coordinate regional Voting and Representation initiatives

  • Develop and implement comprehensive voting and representation access advocacy strategies that align with organizational priorities and campaigns.
  • Lead coordination of AJSOCAL’s voter protection and public education activities, including communications campaigns and volunteer engagement.
  • Provide legislative and strategic guidance and tools to community partners, including policy overview, advocacy engagement and campaign participation.
  • Serve as an ambassador of AJSOCAL’s mission, policy, and advocacy priorities with media, community stakeholders, donors, and with Advancing Justice affiliates. Partner with Director of Litigation in identifying potential areas for impact litigation
  • Supervise Voting Rights projects and Voting Rights Legal Advocate

35% Centralize and Coordinate all CBO Advocacy Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain multi-racial connections and partnerships in alignment with organizations voting and representation access policy priorities
  • Maintain regular communication with AJSOCAL program staff, keeping abreast of key activities in order to make meaningful connections with community partners when appropriate

15% Administrative Support

  • Support Organization wide activities and tasks as needed.
  • In coordination with Program Specialist, Finance, and Development Departments, oversee progress towards grant deliverables, data collection/analysis, and grant reporting and compliance.
  • All other duties as assigned.
