The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world. AHRI has an opening for a Manager, State Government Affairs. The Manager of State Government Affairs serves as one of AHRI’s lobbyists and representatives at the state level. The Manager of State Government Affairs will develop, coordinate, and administer policies, strategies or programs relating to all phases of state legislative advocacy. This position also involves drafting articles, testimony, legislation, reports, and technical documents related to policy and public affairs issues. The Manager of State Government Affairs will monitor state legislation, codes, and regulations to provide analysis on the impact on AHRI’s member companies; subsequently, distributing information on state government affairs to educate and mobilize members to respond to these initiatives. The position will require moderate travel. Duties are as follows:
- Act as liaison to state and local government, and agencies, and to other trade associations on issues of mutual concern.
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of state legislative and regulatory issues important to AHRI’s membership.
- Work with state legislators on key issues, participating in the development of industry coalitions to advocate priority issues identified by AHRI’s members and management.
- Track state legislative issues; write letters; respond to specific inquiries from members, state, and local agencies.
- Develop and maintain key political relationships at the state level to advocate on the behalf of the association.
- Draft articles, testimony, legislation, reports, and technical documents related to policy and public affairs issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, or a related field.
- Minimum three years related experience.
AHRI offers a competitive salary and a full benefits package including employer contributions to 401(k) and Roth(k) plans in a friendly work environment. Subject to supervisor approval, AHRI employees are eligible for participation in AHRI's alternate workplace program after 90 days of employment and a 90-day appraisal at a level of meets expectations. The salary range for this position is $ $77,500 - $96,250.
