Senator Andy Kim, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Disaster Management, Washington D.C., and the Census, seeks a Research Assistant (RA) to cover issues related to his role as Ranking Member and other Committee-related issues. The RA will provide support to the Subcommittee’s Staff Director and Professional Staff Member. The ideal applicant will think strategically, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to public service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting research, drafting letters, and preparing memos regarding legislative proposals and Committee issues.
  • Assisting with Committee hearings and business meeting preparations.
  • Working with the Subcommittee’s Staff Director, Professional Staff Member, the personal office’s Legislative Director, Chief of Staff, and the Senator to identify strategic priorities and build and execute plans for achieving key objectives.
  • Performing administrative and organizational tasks.
  • Representing the Senator in meetings with government officials, constituents, and other stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years of relevant Hill, policy, government, or legal experience.
