Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) is hiring a full-time Field Representative in her Los Angeles District Office (Mid-City/Wilshire Los Angeles). Primary responsibilities include representing Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove at community events and advising the Member and senior staff about local concerns and priorities. Field Representatives meet frequently with constituents and local government representatives, monitor issues and community projects, and help develop and organize events for the Member during district workdays.

 Qualified applicants should have a genuine commitment to public service, a positive attitude, and the ability to set priorities and work in a fast-paced and challenging environment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can multitask. This is a professional staff position that may require work hours beyond the normal workday, including weekends and holidays. Strong writing and verbal communications skills are essential. A valid California driver license and automobile are required. Bilingual skills are a plus.  Salary is commensurate with experience. JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Field Representative

REPORTS TO: District Director

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and update the Member and District Director on district and local issues.
  • Act as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies for the Member and constituents.
  • Developing a strategy for each assigned community in the 37th Congressional District connecting constituents with Federal issues, resources or projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative process.
  • Knowledge of all issues and events in the district in which the Member is involved.
  • Proficiency in word processing.
  • Strong telephone skills.
  • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work tasks and activities.
  • Availability to work long hours.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; and
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.

DUTIES:

  • Acts as the grassroots representative for the Member within their area of responsibility including attending community meetings as assigned, and acting as liaison with federal, district, and local agencies.
  • Informs the Member and the District Director of all happenings in their assigned issue areas by screening district media sources and interacting with constituents.
  • Acts as liaison and interfaces with neighborhood councils, chamber of commerce, city, county, district, and federal officials, and all other persons or groups to develop and maintain effective relationships for the Member.
  • Helps plan and organize community events when the Congressman is in the district.
  • Trains and supervises interns to handle office matters such as logging incoming and outgoing correspondence, handling visitors, telephone calls, and computer operations.
  • Prepares weekly, bi-weekly and or monthly reports for the District Director on meetings and district activities in their assigned issue areas.
  • Continually monitors community issues and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their opinions are heard, and matters resolved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
